The last week of the year

May 29, 2007

The last week of the school year is here, but first I’d like to review and acknowledge some recent accomplishments and activities. Outr tennis team completed their season on Friday. Thanks to Coach Tom Brell for all of his work with the 16 players who comprised out team. Matches were played at Findlay and Columbus and two were hosted by us at Shadow Valley and Laurel Hill.

Our track season concluded yesterday at the CYO Diocesan meet. Thanks to coaches Mike McDonald and Nick Butler for their work throughout the season-it wans’t easy with all of the rainouts.

On Friday, May 11 Mr. Huther and I accompanied a group of students to Columbus for the Ohio Junior High Mock Trial competition. The boys did very well and special recognition went to Tony Calamunci who was named the “Best Witness” in both trials in which we competed. Thanks to Mr. Huther for coaching the team.

This past Friday teams of students went out on service projects to the Beaver Creek Preserve near Otsego, Swan Creek Metropark in Toledo, and the Seagate Food Bank. All of the students did a great job and made positive contributions to the community.

Yesterday we had a great turnout of both new and returning students and their families at our “2nd Annual Fishing Derby” at the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve in Perrysburg. Thanks to the Wood County Parks System for hosting this event for us.

Now, for the week ahead. Today members of the Academy band are performing a concert for residents of the Swan Creek Retirement Village.

Tomorrow is the last full day of the school year. Exams will be held Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The schedule is as follows:

Wednesday—-Math 8:25-9:55 a.m. Social Studies 10:05-11:35 a.m.

Students can leave each day as soon as they have completed their exams.

We will collecting textbooks this week. Please make sure your son has brought in everything he may have at home. We will also be cleaning out lockers–expect your son to bring home some clothes you may not have seen for awhile!

After the last exam on Friday the 8th grade will have a graduation practice–this should only last @ 30 minutes.

Students returning or entering the Academy next year will receive information about required summer reading and upcoming summer events sometime in the next two weeks. Graduating 8th graders will receive their report card in the mail and then will start receiving mail from the high school regarding next year.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call me. Though the year is coming to a close I will be available throughout the summer except for June 17-27 when I will be travelling with a group of high school students to Guatemala.

Finally, everyone is invited to 8th grade graduation on Tuesday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the main chapel.
