It was a busy weekend with the admissions test of next year’s 7th graders on Saturday morning, the Mardi Gras/Reverse Raffle on Saturday evening (it was good to see many Academy parents in attendance), and “Sundaes with Mom” Sunday evening. The “Sundaes” event was an enjoyable evening as we played some games, enjoyed a light supper, made picture frames for mother/son “portraits” that were taken in the commons, and, of course, enjoyed ice cream sundaes. Also, congratulations to one of our 8th grade basketball teams for their tournament championship victory on Sunday—see the following note form Mr. Butler:
Just wanted to take a second to congratulate Coach Starcher’s 8th grade basketball team on winning their season ending basketball tournament yesterday afternoon at Cardinal Stritch High School. Due to the fact that they are on such a roll, Coach Starcher has entered them in another tournament this weekend. We wish them and Coach Periatt’s 7th grade team the best, as they to will be participating in tournament games this weekend.
Mr. Butler

On to a new week. This is the last week of the third quarter–I know, where did it go? Most teachers do not give third quarter exams, but many will have a test this week. Please make sure your son has completed all his projects and homework so he finishes the quarter on a high note.
Wednesday begins the holy season of Lent. We will celebrate a separate Academy Ash Wednesday mass at 8:30 a.m. in the main chapel. Parents, relatives, and friends are welcome to join us.
A reminder that every Tuesday after school the Boy Scout meets in the Academy from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Newcomers are always welcome!
Academy students are invited to join the Adventure Club on a Ski/Snowboard Weekend to Boyne Highlands, Michigan from March 6-8. Total cost is $227 with equipment rental. For more information contact Kym Sloan at 419-704-8593 or kymbsa@bex.net
Our condolences go out to Chase and Casey Shugarman and their mom, Joni Coci, on the passing of Joseph Coci, Joni’s father, and the boys’ grandfather. Grandparents play such an important role in students’ lives and their passing is often a young person’s first experience with grief. Academy students are always welcome to participate in a “Grief Group” sponsored by Mr. Heintschel. They meet every 2-3 weeks and several high school students also participate.
A mission collection is being held this week to raise funds for the spring break Appalachian service trip. Funds collected help purchase supplies and much needed materials to assist the people who live in the impoverished area. Academy 8th grade students will be a part of the service team.
The car raffle has been extended to April 4 when the winning ticket will be drawn at intermission of the spring musical, “Beauty and the Beast.” So, you have a little more time to reduce the cost of your son’s class trip by $10 for every ticket sold. The 7th grade trips are coming up in March, but we can give you a few more days for final payment extending it until Friday, March 13.
Have a good week.
